Another Saturday of protests against the restrictive measures in Austria

Nearly 40,000 people staged mass protests on Saturday in major Austrian cities against restrictive measures over the coronavirus and plans by the Austrian government to introduce compulsory vaccination against Covid-19. This was announced by the Austrian Press Agency (APA), citing the police.

About six thousand people demonstrated in the city of Klagenfurt, and in Graz - about 30 thousand people. The demonstration in Graz has become one of the largest in the city since 1945. About 3,000 people protested in St. Poelten, and protesters were detained there.                                             In Austria, due to the fourth wave of the pandemic and to avoid a breakdown in the health system amid a record incidence of Covid-19, a nationwide blockade was introduced for all residents and restrictions on leaving home from 22 November to 12 December. These measures proved unpopular in Austrian society.

The lockdown and the plan to introduce compulsory vaccination against Covid-19 from February 2022 provoked mass protests involving tens of thousands of people in Austria last weekend and a drop in the rating of the ruling parties. An unprecedented number of people protested in Vienna last Saturday. Полицията съобщи за около 40 хиляди демонстранти, а организаторите - за около 100 хиляди.
