The Spanish government has confirmed that it does not recognize Kosovo's independence

The Spanish government has reaffirmed its decision not to recognize Kosovo's independence, although it notes that it has a "constructive approach" on the issue and supports the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue under the auspices of the European Union, Belgrade's Politika reported.

This was announced in the parliamentary response of MP Mariona Ilamoli, who asked about Kosovo's aspirations to join the EU.

In response, the Spanish government reaffirmed to Europa press its position "on the non-recognition of the unilateral declaration of independence that Pristina adopted in 2008, as it is a unilateral act".                                                                          However, the government said that "from a constructive point of view, it is time to make a last-ditch effort to resolve the issue of Kosovo's territory in the framework of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, an agreement that respects international law."

As for Kosovo's aspirations to join the EU, the government has said it is actively committed to EU enlargement policy and fully believes in the need for a new wave of accession to the Western Balkans.                                                                         Ilamola also asked the executive about the EU-Western Balkans summit in Slovenia in October, which was also attended by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

The Catalan MP asked if the government believed that Spain's image was being damaged by vetoing the flags and symbols of a country like Kosovo.

It refers to the fact that in order to ensure the participation of Pedro Sanchez and the leaders of other EU countries that do not recognize Kosovo, it was decided not to use symbols of the youngest Balkan country at the event.                               "Non-recognition (of Kosovo) does not mean termination of participation," the Spanish government explained, noting that participation has certain conditions agreed within the EU.
