In 2022, Germany will pay for the most expensive electricity in the world

Electricity and gas prices continue to rise in Germany, reports Der Spiegel. Next year, the average increase in the prices of blue fuel will be 20%, and electricity - 7%, predicts the online platform for comparing offers Verivox. As a result, for an average family, the annual cost of heating and other household services will increase by about 329 euros.

At the same time, in some federal provinces even greater growth is forecast, the publication continues. Verivox estimates that gas prices in Lower Saxony will rise by 24% and in Schleswig-Holstein by 25%. Energy prices in Germany will become the highest in the world, experts from the online platform emphasize.                                                             What is happening is related to the rapid rise in prices of imported energy resources. For example, natural gas rose by 193.9%, oil - by 105.9% and coal - by 213.2%. The increase in their value, in turn, is due to the imbalance between supply and demand, explains Der Spiegel. Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the economic situation in Germany has returned to normal and production has begun to grow, and with it energy demand. But supply is not in line with demand. In addition, Russia supplied less gas to Germany than originally planned, the newspaper notes.             Amid sharp fluctuations in energy prices, consumer advocates are urging authorities to increase gas supplies and financial assistance to private households. If oil and gas prices continue to rise, it is necessary to give money to low-income families and in accordance with this increase to index subsidies for rent, unemployment benefits and pensions, requires the head of the Federal Association of Centers for consumer protection Klaus Müller.                            According to him, it is also necessary to renovate the houses with the lowest energy efficiency, and in the medium term to reduce Germany's dependence on oil and gas by developing alternative energy sources that are much cheaper than fossil fuels.
