Four people were killed in an explosion at an apartment building in the Sicilian city of Ravanusa on Saturday night, ANSA news agency reported on Sunday, with rescuers working at the site.
Earlier, three bodies were found. Two surviving women have also been reported. The search for five more people, who are still unknown, is currently underway.
According to the mayor of the city with a population of just over 10,000 people, Carmelo D'Angelo, there are no children among the unknown.
According to preliminary data, the explosion on Saturday night was provoked by a gas leak. The powerful explosion destroyed three houses and damaged four more. As the Giornale di Sicilia newspaper reported earlier, at least 12 people have been reported missing as a result of the blast.
