A British minister has warned that restrictions on COVID-19 are radicalizing terrorists

The threat of terrorism in the United Kingdom may be exacerbated by restrictions on the coronavirus, as potential extremists who are locked in their homes have more opportunities to radicalize, writes The Telegraph, citing the words of the Minister of Security Damien Hinds. According to him, in the context of lockdown, active contact on the Internet with certain materials and people accelerates this trend.

For Damien Hinds, the post of UK Secretary of Security is both an honor and a heavy burden. After being appointed to the post in August, Hinds spent days working with intelligence agencies to neutralize the huge number of dangers that constantly threaten the British, explains The Telegraph.

"Obviously this topic is very difficult and sometimes painful," he admitted, referring to the conspiracies of various terrorists, as well as extremist material that often comes to his table.

"Sometimes you see and hear things that no one would want to see or hear," he said, adding, however, that working in this position, which connects him with many excellent professionals, is "a great honor."

In an interview with the newspaper, Hinds spoke about the main dangers he believes the United Kingdom faces, and also describes the exact threats posed by both terrorists and a number of hostile forces.

According to Hinds, the threat of terrorism in the United Kingdom can only be exacerbated by restrictions that authorities have been forced to impose to stop the spread of the coronavirus. At the same time, the minister explained, now it is not large international organizations that deal with terrorist attacks, but people who organize attacks "independently" and do not depend on any center.

At the same time, Hinds noted that in the last two years, which have largely been a lockdown, people have been forced to stay at home for months, which may have contributed to "radicalization in the bedrooms."

"Obviously and logically, when more people spend more time locked up in front of a computer, then the small number of people who perceive this as a grim journey grows. And, as you know, there are conditions on the Internet for the development of such a movement and contacts with various materials and people, "the minister warned.

At the same time, Britain is threatened not only by terrorists but also by the realities of the growing geopolitical struggle. In particular, Hinds stressed the threats to the country posed by China, Russia and Iran.

"These three countries that I mentioned have physical resources, a large presence in cyberspace and are capable of large-scale action. They can and do carry out information operations and participate in them in many different ways. "
