NATO confirms Jens Stoltenberg has proposed convening a NATO-Russia Council on 12 January

 


 NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has proposed to the Russian Federation to convene a meeting of the NATO-Russia (SNA) Council on 12 January, when a planned meeting of the Alliance's Military Committee at the level of Chiefs of Staff will be held in Brussels. This was announced on Sunday for TASS by the press service of the Alliance.

"NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, as President of the NATO-Russia Council, has decided to convene a meeting of the Council on 12 January 2022. We are in contact with Russia regarding this meeting," the Alliance's press office said.

 As the North Atlantic Council emphasized in its December 16 statement on the situation in and around Ukraine, any dialogue with Russia must be based on reciprocity, respond to NATO's concerns about Russia's actions, be based on fundamental principles and fundamental documents for European security and to be held in parallel with consultations with NATO's European partners, "the Press Office said.

Earlier, the NATO press service announced that on January 12-13, Brussels will host a meeting of the NATO Military Committee at the level of the Chiefs of Staff of the Allies.
