2021 will be remembered with natural disasters around the world

Unprecedented floods and large-scale fires, tornadoes and cyclones, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes - the expiring year 2021 will surely be remembered for the natural disasters that have occurred in different parts of the world. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by these disasters, and some regions still have a long recovery ahead of them, the NTD said.

From floods and fires in Europe to tornadoes in the United States: in 2021 the wrath of nature fell on the world in the form of all sorts of cataclysms. It all started with the record cold in Spain - there were recorded unprecedented temperatures in the country of minus 34 degrees. Then the storm "Philomena" brought there the heaviest snowfall in a decade.

In Indonesia, the year began with two disasters at once: the first earthquake on the island of Sulawesi, which killed 80 people, then a flood on the island of Borneo.

Cyclone Eloise hit Africa in late January. Thousands had to be evacuated, several died. A glacier fell in the Indian Himalayas in February, burying more than 170 people.

The strongest sandstorm in 10 years hit Beijing and the surrounding provinces. And the states in Australia have been hit by the worst floods in half a century. An erupting volcano in the Congo killed more than 30 people in May.

And then disaster struck Western Europe in the form of heavy rains that dragged cars and drowned cities. Almost 190 people died, mostly in Germany. Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and France were also affected.

Meanwhile, the US states of Oregon and California were battling the blaze. Several fires destroyed thousands of hectares of forest. Then began the strongest fires in Turkey and Greece - they burned on the shores of the Mediterranean and Aegean, on the island of Euboea and near Athens.

And in August, a powerful earthquake struck Haiti. More than 2,200 people died.

In September, the volcano Cumbre Vieja began to erupt on the Canary Island of Palma. It erupted for three months and died only in December, the longest eruption in 500 years. The lava burned 500 hectares of land, destroying nearly 3,000 buildings and banana plantations. Thousands of people were forced to evacuate. Fortunately, no one was injured here. In December, the volcano erupted on the Indonesian island of Java, killing several dozen people.

Dozens of tornadoes have swept across five US states. The victims are more than a hundred. Typhoon Paradise hit the Philippines, leaving a real hell behind. About 400 people have died, one of the provinces will have to recover for a very long time.
