Iowa has approved a budget of more than $ 9 million to recruit nurses outside the state as COVID-19-related hospitalizations continue to grow, according to the Washington Examiner. Iowa is offering the Kansas-based company approximately $ 220 an hour for the nurses it manages to send.
Nurses are expected to work 20 hours of overtime at $ 330 per hour. In total, the move will cost Iowa more than $ 15,000 a nurse a week, and at least 100 respiratory therapists and nurses have already arrived in Iowa after hearing the news.
Workers outside the state will receive a paid hotel stay and a transportation bonus. The staffing agency hired by the state was used in December 2020 and January 2021.
The cost of the 100 additional nurses at the time was about $ 6.9 million, the report said.
