The number of tankers carrying LNG from the United States to Europe has increased by a third

The number of tankers transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States to Europe has increased by a third over the weekend - from 15 to 20 ships, according to Bloomberg.

"20 American gas tankers headed for Europe, 15 the day before Christmas," the agency said in a statement. Another 14 ships were "sailing in the same direction" but were still awaiting "final orders".

Bloomberg notes that natural gas prices in European markets fell for four consecutive days due to expectations for supplies from the United States. However, the price of natural gas is still 10 times higher than a year ago. At the same time, Gazprom's European customers are not submitting new supply offers, which is why the Russian company has not reserved capacity through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline for the eighth day in a row since Monday.

The global gas market is facing a supply crisis amid a sharp recovery in demand in Asia and a shortage of LNG capacity. Increased demand for blue fuel in Asia has caused prices to rise and withdraw mainstream LNG supply, which has exacerbated the crisis in Europe. There, the situation is exacerbated by low stocks in gas storage facilities.

Under these conditions, the price of gas in the Dutch hub TTF this fall for the first time in history exceeded the limit of $ 1,000 per thousand cubic meters, and in December - $ 2,000 for the same amount. However, the price in the hub is volatile due to the speculative factor and does not reflect the real price of physical supplies to Europe. The average export price of gas under contracts with Gazprom in 2021 will be $ 280 per thousand cubic meters.
