We have nowhere to go in terms of security

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that in terms of security, Russia has been "placed" on a line from which it has nowhere to retreat, the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted him as saying.

"I want it to be clear to everyone, both at home and abroad, to our partners, so that it is clear: this is not even the border we do not want anyone to cross. The point is that we have nowhere to go, "he said in an interview with the Moscow-Kremlin-Putin program on Russia-1.

The president noted that once the West delivers missile systems to Ukraine, they will reach Moscow in four to five minutes.

"Well, where do we go then? They just brought us to such a state that we have to tell them: Stop! That's the whole point," Putin said.

The president stressed that Russia's response to NATO enlargement to the east could be very different. The final decision depends on proposals from Russian military experts, the president said.

But the main goal of the Russian Federation is to reach agreements with the West to ensure the country's security.

"Our proposal is open and understandable. We wanted the public of both Russia and Ukraine, and the public of Europe, the United States, to understand what our idea is, what we would like to implement during this negotiation process. I see nothing bad here, "Putin said, referring to Russia's proposal for security guarantees.

At the same time, the President noted that Russia fears that any proposal from our side will be used to fill with "destructive work to create threats to us in our neighboring countries, on their territory." "They will talk endlessly, talk endlessly about the need for negotiations and will do nothing but inflate the neighboring country with modern weapons systems and increase the threat to the Russian Federation, with which we must do something, somehow live." Putin said.
