Of the five million people left unvaccinated in France, 110,000 use fake COVID-19 certificates. This was announced by the Minister of Interior of the country Gerald Darmanin in front of the public television channel France 2, Euractiv reports.
According to Darmanin, 400 investigations are currently under way. So far, they have led to more than a hundred arrests targeting both those who use fake certificates and the networks that provide them.
The use of forged certificates is still "very difficult to prove," Darmanin said, explaining that in most cases, forged documents are made with the help of "real doctors or real nurses."
In France, the use of a false COVID certificate can have serious consequences.
Some have been given suspended sentences, while others have been sentenced to prison, Darmanin continued, stressing that the sentence could be up to five years in prison.
