Croatian opposition completes collection of signatures to hold referendum on COVID passports

The Croatian opposition party Most has completed collecting signatures from citizens to hold a referendum on the abolition of COVID passports and the transfer of powers to impose or lift restrictive measures against the coronavirus from the National Civil Protection Headquarters to the republic's parliament. This was announced to journalists on Sunday by the MP from the party Nikola Garmoya, the state HRT reports.

"According to preliminary data, we managed to collect the required number of signatures ...", the national media quoted the opposition MP as saying. However, he added that the collected signatures are still being counted. 369,000 votes in support of the initiative are needed to hold a referendum.

The collection of signatures by representatives of the Most party took place in all regions of Croatia from December 4th to 18th. The opposition aims to oppose measures introduced by the country's authorities, which it believes restrict human rights and freedoms.
