Downing Street has called for the Christmas festivities not to be canceled

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson tried to clear up the confusion about whether people should plan celebrations for the Christmas and New Year holidays amid the spread of the coronavirus, calling for events not to be canceled, writes the British newspaper The Independent.

The London government is once again facing mixed messages about the coronavirus after a minister admitted to canceling his team's Christmas party and instead scheduled an online "party" at Zoom.

George Freeman, the Minister of Business, suggested that it would be good if large companies followed his example, amid fears about the spread of the new version of COVID-19 - Omicron.

This year, we decided it was probably wise to do it (the celebration) via Zoom and wait for spring, "Freeman said earlier in the day.

His comments came just a day after Health Minister Sajid Javid said there was no need for people to change their plans, but to add to them a coronavirus test and a protective mask. Boris Johnson made similar statements this week, the editorial office recalls.

Germany, meanwhile, has decided to ban unvaccinated people from visiting non-food stores and leisure venues as it fights its latest wave of infections. "The situation in our country is serious," said German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
