Russia is exploring the possibility of monitoring the content of video games using artificial intelligence

The Central Radio Frequency Center (RFC) is conducting research on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in monitoring video game content. According to analysts at the center, this will protect children from stories containing child pornography, calls for suicide and drug use. This was reported by the Russian newspaper "Kommersant", referring to a study by the Scientific and Technical Center (STC) of the GRC.

As noted in the publication, this technology is offered as a recommended service in the HRC and specific decisions on detected malicious content must be made by experts. Roskomnadzor confirmed the relevance of the study and at the same time stressed that in order to respect the rights and freedoms of citizens, AI algorithms must be controlled by humans.

"The games are becoming more and more complex and one cannot comprehend the completeness of the proposed plot branches," Alexander Fedotov, head of the STC of the GRCH, told Kommersant. According to him, studying such content can take hundreds or thousands of hours, which is very difficult for a person.

However, some experts in the gaming industry point out the difficulties in using this technology. Thus, according to Arseniy Kondratiev, head of Liquid Studio Accenture in Russia, for each new game it is necessary to train a separate network, which can take a lot of time and servers.

In addition, the founder of the rawg.io portal Hadji Makhtiev noted that the games are currently undergoing the necessary monitoring before being released from the platforms where they are hosted. Also, according to him, the proposed mechanism will complicate the situation in the gaming industry and will be inaccurate due to the peculiarities of user-generated content (UGC) in games, for example when watching messages from users of games in chats.
