The United States will pay for the decision to declare a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin at a regular briefing on Wednesday, TASS reports.
"We have already said that the United States will pay the price for its wrongdoing. "Let's wait and see what happens next," he said when asked what countermeasures China plans to take. He also did not answer the question of whether China plans to take similar steps towards Australia to boycott the Olympics.
According to him, China has not issued any official invitations to the Olympics to representatives of the Australian government. As the diplomat said, "no one will pay attention to their absence," so that will not hinder the Games. He also noted that linking the boycott to respecting human rights in the Xinjiang region runs counter to the spirit of the Olympic Charter.
