Authorities in Paris have canceled the festive events of the Champs Elysees for the New Year

 


 Authorities in Paris have announced the cancellation of the pyrotechnic show and the festive events of the Champs Elysees on New Year's Eve due to the spread of COVID-19, TACC reports, citing a statement from the mayor's office.

"Paris authorities, in accordance with a government statement, on the recommendation of the prefecture of the police and sanitary authorities, announced that the festive events of the Champs Elysees will not take place," said a statement from the city government.

The announcement also states that the DJ performance and the pyrotechnic show are also canceled.

 On Friday, Prime Minister Jean Castex, after a meeting of the Defense Council, which discussed the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country, announced the cancellation of holiday events across the country.

France is experiencing the fifth wave of COVID-19. Last Wednesday, about 63.5 thousand people were identified - indicators that had not been registered in the country since April. Authorities are concerned about the rapid spread of the new strain of coronavirus, Omicron.
