By 2033, the United Kingdom will phase out the use of second and third generation mobile networks (2G and 3G), reports Reuters.
This solution will help free up frequencies for the development of 5G and subsequently 6G mobile communications, which will be used by such high-tech devices as drones, airplanes and virtual reality devices. All four mobile operators in the UK - EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three - have agreed on a schedule.
The set deadlines for the use of 2G and 3G networks will facilitate the entry of new equipment manufacturers into the market, as they do not have to support old technologies, according to the agency.
Earlier, the Minister of Digital Technology, Culture, Media and Sports Nadine Doris announced the allocation of 50 million pounds (66.2 million dollars) additional funding for projects to develop technology Open RAN (Radio Access Network). The Open RAN concept is to create a new family of open standards that will allow operators to move beyond traditional vendors such as Ericsson and Nokia to partner with a wider range of global vendors.
