Norway has spoken out against the presence of NATO troops on its border with Russia

Norway's new government has opposed the presence of troops from Oslo's NATO allies near the border with Russia. This was announced on Thursday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom Aniken Huitfeld to the Verdens Gang newspaper, TASS reports.

According to her, "it is very important for Norway to have a military presence in areas near [the Norwegian border]". However, the minister noted that "it would be better if [Norway] could manage on its own near the Russian border, with the help of its own planes and frigates" from the Norwegian armed forces.

It is in Norway's interest to take care of these territories on its own with the help of the Norwegian defense, "she added.

The foreign minister plans to discuss the issue with NATO allies, most notably the United Kingdom and the United States.
