The Taliban have banned dollar-denominated financial transactions

The ruling Taliban in Kabul have banned financial transactions with US currency in the country, the Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets reported, citing local news agency Aamaj News.

The Taliban have decided to ban the circulation of the US national currency in the country after its market value jumped to 114 Afghans for 1 dollar.

The sharp rise in the dollar began on December 7, when the US currency, which was previously stable at 93-95 afghani for the dollar, crossed the 100 afghanite mark.

The dollar is currently the main foreign currency circulating in Afghanistan. However, the country's authorities linked the devaluation of the national payment unit to the free circulation of the dollar and other foreign currencies, in connection with which it was decided to ban foreign exchange transactions.
