Germany is urging the EU to impose sanctions on the Bosnian Serb leader

The German government has asked the EU to impose sanctions on the Serbian member of the BiH Presidium, Milorad Dodik, for his attempts to separate Republika Srpska from the BiH armed forces, tax and judiciary, Reuters reported.

Such attempts are unacceptable to the German government, German Foreign Minister Analena Berbok said in Brussels.

"His attempts to secede are unacceptable, which means that the current sanctions regime must be used against Dodik, which I advocated here in Brussels," said Analena Burbock after meeting with colleagues in Brussels.
Earlier, the Bonn Serb leader said that Banja Luka would not resign and that "if Germany imposes sanctions, it will retaliate."

EU leaders will discuss the situation in the Balkans in more detail at the European bloc's summit with its eastern neighbors on Wednesday, Reuters added.
