The EU has decided not to impose sanctions on Turkey because of the reluctance of Germany and Italy

The European Union's Foreign Affairs Council has concluded discussions without taking any action against Turkey for violating UN Security Council resolutions on the Cypriot resort of Varosha, which is open to visitors, the Greek City Times reported.

Turkey has once again avoided sanctions, this time because Germany has apologized for failing to investigate the document.

According to Philenews, during the discussion, the German foreign minister said that the "option document" was published only last week, when the new German government took office.
Analena Burbock said more time is needed to study the document, as well as the implications of the decisions that will be made.

Italy agreed with Germany's approach, while the Netherlands expressed general reservations about the possibility of making any decisions.

EU High Representative Josep Borrell, addressing the issue of Turkey's illegal actions in Varos, stressed the need for solutions, as the issue has been on the agenda for a long time.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, also agreed with Borel's position, pointing out that any failure to make decisions would jeopardize confidence in the EU itself.

The common approach of the High Representative and Nicosia on the need for concrete decisions is supported by Ireland, Greece, France, Belgium, Estonia, Austria, Malta and Luxembourg.

In particular, Ireland, Austria, France, Greece and Luxembourg have expressed the view that this approach is perfectly reasonable and justified, as otherwise, among other things, the wrong messages will be sent to Turkey.
