Varheli invites Kosovo to join Open Balkan

Adviser to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti reacted after EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varheli called on the other three partners in the Western Balkans to join the Open Balkans initiative, the online edition of the Pristina daily Telegrafi reported.

Yeton Zulfaj said in an interview with RTV Dukagjini that the European Union has rejected the initiative several times, as it duplicates the existing one for regional cooperation. "We are in a situation where Serbia is constantly moving backwards in democracy, while Mr Varheli's reports are always positive. Mr Varheli is a commissioner, but I do not know whether he represents the majority of the views of the EU member states, especially those of Germany, which is leading the Berlin process. I don't think so, "Zulfay said. He added that the Open Balkans initiative competes with that of the regional common market.
