Orban will help Republika Srpska with 100m euros

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stressed that Serbia and Republika Srpska are "the key to stability in the Western Balkans" and announced that Budapest would help Banja Luka with 100m euros, the Belgrade daily Novosti reported.

Orbán called on the German government to integrate the region into the European Union, not to punish it, because, as he warned, this could lead to bigger problems.

He stressed that the BiH border is only 70 to 80km from southern Hungary and that any conflict could spill over into his country.

In addition, Orban reiterated that he would block all EU attempts to impose sanctions on the Serbian member of the BiH Presidium, Milorad Dodik.

Orbán explained that the Hungarian government is providing 100m euros in financial assistance to Republika Srpska as part of a responsible neighborhood policy to promote stability in the region. According to RTRS, the money is intended for small and medium-sized enterprises in Republika Srpska.

The Hungarian prime minister also said Dodik was a democratically elected politician and warned Western powers that removing him from the political scene would be dangerous.
