The International Olympic Committee has decided to remove three of the major sports from the 2028 Games, which will be held in Los Angeles. This was announced by the president of the headquarters Thomas Bach. Out of the Olympics are weightlifting, boxing and modern pentathlon. In their place are skateboards, surfing and sport climbing.
The decision to remove three of the main sports from the Olympics was made after a virtual meeting of the IOC, which took place in the last three days.
All three dropouts will be able to compete for the event, but will have to overcome competition from other sports such as baseball, softball, karate, squash, lacrosse, cricket and polo, which can be one-off additions to the Games.
