Croatian president cancels visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina for security reasons

Croatian President Zoran Milanovic has canceled a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina scheduled for Sunday for "security reasons", his office was quoted as saying by Skopje-based MKD.

The decision to cancel the visit is based on a security assessment by the competent Croatian institutions.

"President Milanovic regrets that he will not take part in the Lishvan Valley event, an important event for Croats, and sends strong support and gratitude to the organizers for maintaining his security," the statement said.

Milanovic was to attend the celebration of the 28th anniversary of the White Road to Nova Bila and Bosnia Srebrena humanitarian convoy.

Speaking recently about crimes in the region, Milanovic said genocide had been committed in Srebrenica, but a new name for more serious crimes must now be devised.

"I say it's genocide, but then for some more serious crimes we have to come up with a new name. I respect the self-sacrifice of others, but not everything is the same. If everything is genocide, then we need to come up with another name for what the Nazis did to the Jews during World War II. "This is relativization," he said, stressing that justice is important for victims.

Only days earlier, Milanovic stressed that there were "different types of genocide".

"This is my position in general, but there are genocides and genocides. "There is genocide against Jews, there is genocide in Rwanda, there is genocide in Srebrenica, an event is defined as genocide, and genocide is widespread," he said, prompting some BiH politicians to sue the BiH prosecutor's office for downplaying the crime. "Srebrenica genocide".
