NATO will discuss Russia's security proposals next week

NATO members will discuss Russia's proposals for security guarantees in the North Atlantic Council next week. This was announced by German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht on Sunday during his visit to Lithuania, TACC reports.

"I have made it clear that we need to resolve the tense situation we are in, both at the diplomatic level and through credible restrictive measures. This includes the fact that we need to talk to each other," she told a news conference in Lithuanian. colleague Arvidas Anushauskas. "This means that the discussion of the proposals presented by Russia is correct and important, but it is impossible (to allow) Russia to dictate to NATO partners how to position themselves," the minister said. "This must be clear and we will show it very strongly during the consultations," Lambrecht continued.

"We will discuss these proposals in the North Atlantic Council next week," said the German defense minister.

Lambrecht also emphasized that he was making his first visit as a minister to Lithuania "quite deliberately". "We stand firmly on the side of our partners and friends," she said. "We in NATO are ready to stand resolutely, as well as to unite, in the name of the security of our allies," Lambrecht said. She noted that the Alliance is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine.
