Rescuers removed four more bodies after the explosion in Sicily

Rescuers have removed four more bodies from the rubble of houses destroyed by an alleged gas explosion in the Sicilian city of Ravanusa, bringing the total death toll to seven, Reuters reported, citing data from local fire services.

Two people are still missing after Saturday's blast, which destroyed four houses and severely damaged three others.

The bodies of the dead were found by trained dogs. Among the victims is a nurse who is nine months pregnant. Emergency services also worked at night to clear the rubble.

"The wreckage needs to be carefully removed piece by piece to avoid other possible collapses that could hit both firefighters and the people we are looking for," firefighter spokesman Luke Curry told the agency.

Authorities said the deadly explosion was likely caused by a gas leak, although an investigation is under way to determine the cause.
