Nord Stream 2 is unlikely to gain access to the European gas distribution network before September 2022

Experts believe that even in the case of a positive decision to certify the operator Nord Stream 2 AG, the gas pipeline of the same name is unlikely to gain access to the gas distribution network in Europe until September 2022. This opinion was expressed by the Vice President ) in the Bundestag, foreign policy expert Alexander Graf Lambsdorf at a press conference held online, reports TACC.

"Experts in one way or another do not expect access to the network before September 2022, regardless of the outcome, even in the event of a rapid positive development. So this issue is not relevant today, "Lambsdorff said.

"The Free Democratic Party is fully committed to the coalition agreement on this issue," he continued. The coalition agreement of the new government of Germany "Nord Stream 2" is not mentioned, and the document only emphasizes the supremacy of common European standards for energy projects.

"We can discuss Nord Stream 2 from different perspectives. But the result is this: we have a completed infrastructure project, now it is being studied from a legal point of view, "Lambsdorf said, recalling that the certification procedure has been suspended. "The Federal Network Agency will decide whether to allow or not, ie. to certify or not [the pipeline operator]. And then the European Commission will be able to re-examine this decision, "he said.

To start pumping gas, the Nord Stream 2 operator needs approval from the German regulator. Certification has already been suspended because Nord Stream 2 AG, based in Switzerland, has to register a subsidiary in Germany.
