The Taliban have issued a decree on women's rights

 

The leadership of the Taliban, which has seized power in Afghanistan, has issued a decree on women's rights. The document was circulated on Friday by Zabihullah Mujahid, the deputy minister of information and culture in the interim Taliban government, on his Twitter page, TACC reports.

According to a decree signed by Taliban leader Haybatullah Ahundzada, "no one can force a woman to marry." It emphasizes that a woman is a "free man", she cannot be "the subject of (truce) or cessation of enmity" between men.

  The Taliban also specified the rights of the wife in the event of the death of her husband. by force, including her relatives, "the document said. The widow has a "fixed share in the property of her husband, children, father and relatives" and is also entitled to inheritance. She can determine her own future and, in particular, remarry after receiving a dowry from her new husband.

The decree also states that polygamists are obliged to "grant (equal) rights to all (their wives) in accordance with Sharia law."
