Bilateral problems between Sofia and Skopje must be resolved bilaterally

Germany is serious about the European perspective for all countries in the region, the European Union with regard to Macedonia keeps its word, all preconditions for starting negotiations on Macedonia and Albania are met and they must begin. Germany will continue to actively advocate for this, and it remains important for us to resolve bilateral issues bilaterally, regardless of the EU accession process, said the Minister for Europe and Climate of the Federal Republic of Germany Anna Lirmann during her visit to Skopje today. She said she was pleased that Skopje and Sofia were working actively to resolve the bilateral issues that led to the blockade, according to the Macedonian edition of Radio Free Europe.

Macedonia and Bulgaria are actively working on the solutions to the blockade that Macedonia received and (the country) continues to follow the path of reforms and I would like to encourage you to stay on this path, because without a consistent fight against corruption no country can it is evolving, so it is more important to continue reforms and good governance, "she said.

"I hope that we will soon be able to take a step forward and launch the first intergovernmental conference. It is important to resolve the bilateral issues that exist between Macedonia and Bulgaria and that need to be resolved bilaterally." "I am optimistic about the signals from Bulgaria and on this issue I wish you much success in tomorrow's talks," Lirman said.

According to the government's press service at the meeting with Minister Anna Lirmann, which was also attended by Minister Bojan Maricic, Kovachevski expressed gratitude that the new government of the Federal Republic of Germany, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has put EU enlargement with the Western Balkans high in its coalition agenda. in particular, he explicitly emphasized the need to open the first negotiating chapters with Macedonia and Albania without further delay as the next step in the EU's enlargement to the region.
