The Turkish president is visiting Albania

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed steps to deepen co-operation with Albania, assessing all aspects of bilateral ties during his official visit to the country on Monday, the Turkish-language Turkish daily Daily Sabah reported.

Arriving in the Tirana capital, Erdogan was welcomed by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama at an official ceremony at Tirana International Airport.

The President was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, Minister of Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Minister of Youth and Sports Mehra Muhmaha. on tourism Nuri Ersoy.

Erdogan also attended a handover ceremony for hundreds of Turkish-built homes in the northwestern city of Lach, which was hit by a powerful earthquake in November 2019.

"Albania's happiness is our happiness, its sorrow is our sorrow," he said at the site's opening.

He recalled that Turkey reacted quickly after the earthquake to meet the needs of the Albanian people by mobilizing all state funds and sending technical teams.

"The fact that Turkey was the first country to rush to help the region after the earthquake is the greatest proof of the strong solidarity between us."

In addition, Erdogan promised to continue to side with the Albanians in the future.

"We are crowning the friendship between Turkey and Albania by handing over these homes to people who lost their homes during the earthquake," he added.
