Rosatom has started production of equipment for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in India

Russia's Atommash (part of Rosatom) has started production of the reactor and steam generators for the sixth power unit of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in India, Ikona Communications reports. Under the contract, the company must supply two nuclear reactors with in-hull devices and a WWER-1000 upper unit for the plant's fifth and sixth power units, steam generators, main circulating pump units, main circulating pipeline and other equipment with a total mass of about 6,000 tons.

The Kudankulam NPP is located in southern India, in the state of Tamil Nadu, and has WWER-1000 units. Since 2016, the first power unit has been operating sustainably at a design level of 1000 MW. In the same year, a second power unit of the plant was included in the national energy network of the country.

The authorities in India signed a general framework agreement with Rosatom for the construction of the third and fourth power units of Kudankulam NPP in the spring of 2014, and in 2017 an agreement was signed for the construction of the fifth and sixth power units.
