Price controls have made fuel in Hungary one of the cheapest in the EU

Fuel prices in Hungary are among the lowest in the European Union thanks to the government's decision to limit retail prices for petrol and diesel to 480 forints (1.30 euros) per liter, said an official from the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. the Hungarian-language edition of Hungary Today.

Fuel price restraint policy is an integral part of the government's scheme to limit utility prices, Secretary of State Tamas Shanda said in a Facebook video.

He said that "unlike the left", the government believes it must intervene if rising prices threaten the economy and households.

Shanda said the policy had reduced prices per liter of petrol and diesel by 26 forints (7 eurocents) and 32 forints (9 eurocents), respectively.
