Gazprom is not reserving additional capacity for gas transit through Ukraine for February

"Gazprom" at the auction on Monday, January 17, did not reserve additional capacity for the transit of natural gas through the territory of Ukraine in February, "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" writes.

In total, additional capacity of 9.8 million cubic meters per day was put up for auction. Previously, Gazprom similarly did not reserve additional capacity offered by Ukraine for January, but limited itself to obligations under the current long-term contract, which provides an average of about 109 million cubic meters per day by the end of 2024.

It is also known that the Russian holding company has not kept the capacity of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline for February for gas transit through Poland. This follows from the tender data of the GSA Platform. In total, it was proposed on Monday to maintain the transit capacity of the Polish section of 89 million cubic meters of gas per day, but the proposal remained unsolicited.

The publication reminds that the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline has not been operating or is operating in reverse mode, transporting gas from Germany to Poland since the end of last year. In addition, Gazprom responsibly set aside part of its January capacity (19 million cubic meters per day) for exports to the West, but had no requests for supplies from Europe.

At the same time, according to Gazprom itself, the volume of active gas in UGS facilities in Europe in mid-January was 25% lower than a year earlier. According to the Russian company, a total of 62.6% of the gas pumped during the summer has already been taken from underground storage facilities in Europe. The volume of active gas in European storage facilities as of January 15 is only 46.9 billion cubic meters, which is one billion cubic meters below the historical minimum values for that date, Gazprom said. According to the holding, stocks in Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities have shrunk to 12.6 billion cubic meters. The difference with last year's data is 44.2% and 2.7 billion cubic meters less than the starting date of accumulation in April 2021.
