Russia may respond asymmetrically to new US sanctions

Russia may unexpectedly and asymmetrically respond to the United States with some of the toughest sanctions against Moscow being developed in the US Congress. Experts expect that Russian President Vladimir Putin will address this issue in his address to the Federal Assembly, Moskovsky Komsomolets reports.

According to the Telegram channel Nezigar, judging by the requested materials for the preparation of the Address, it can be assumed that "signals will be sent to the United States for an unexpected asymmetric response to possible sanctions."

So, among the possible answers is the introduction of a ban on the import of household appliances from the United States to Russia, including kitchen appliances and refrigerators. Thus, Russia will anticipate the US intention to impose such sanctions. The volume of these supplies from the United States to Russia is small, so the economic damage will be insignificant and the political effect will be impressive.

In addition, Russia may impose a ban on the purchase of vehicles, machinery and equipment in the United States. The volume of such transactions is about 4 billion dollars a year (according to data from 2020). Russia can easily find analogues of these products on the world market.

Finally, Russia may restrict or ban all supplies of its petroleum products to the United States. This could be painful for the United States, the publication notes. Now Russia, according to experts, is the second largest supplier of hydrocarbons to the United States and the volume of transactions is about 12 billion dollars. In this case, some oil refineries in the United States may stop, there will be a crisis in the farms, which will begin to put pressure on policy.

So far, there is no official confirmation of this version of Russia's response to possible US sanctions.
