It remains an enigma how the historical commission will work

It remains an enigma how Skopje and Sofia will resolve open historical issues, which have been debated in the Joint Historical Commission for three years, Skopje's Alsat M television channel commented.

After the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of  Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, announced on Monday in an interview with BNT a change in the way the Commission works, today the Prime Ministers of both countries Kovachevski and Petkov skillfully avoided answers on this topic. create a good environment for productive dialogue between historians. Kovachevski said historical issues will be put in the background, and Petkov said the historical commission is one of five to be determined on Tuesday in Sofia. Neither Kovachevski nor Petkov announced a change in the Commission's methodology.

"I personally hope that the members of the Historical Commission will be informed together about what has been agreed and that what has been jointly agreed will be a bridge to the future, not a return to the past," Kovachevski said.

"I hope that when we appoint the Historical Commission to be one of the five committees, within all those benefits that need to be achieved from working together, even the issues that have not yet been stated, they will be asked in many - a different environment - an environment of good dialogue, an environment of constructiveness, "Petkov said.

Asked what the names of the people and the language in the country he lives in are, the Bulgarian prime minister said that Sofia respects the right of citizens of the Republic of Northern Macedonia to self-determination, and Kovachevski reiterated that he speaks Macedonian, but added that the language remains the same. bilateral agreements with Bulgaria, the Macedonian language will be written as official according to the country's Constitution.

It is this wording that is used in the text of the Brussels Negotiating Framework, which Sofia still does not approve, in effect vetoing it. So far, Bulgaria has not responded to the request of the Macedonian authorities not to use such a wording for the Macedonian language.
