Car colors - which is the most popular?

At the top of the list there are no changes - the top trio is led by gray / silver, followed by black and white, but there are changes in the back positions of the most popular colors of paint for new cars. The German Automobile Industry Association (VDA) recently evaluated data from the Federal Road Transport Service (KBA) in this direction.

The colors gray / silver have (29.9 percent), black (24.6 percent) and white (21.4 percent), which takes the first three places in the first eleven months of 2021. However, the leader loses a little approval, while the "pursuers" slightly catch up. White is the color that has increased the most in the last 15 years. In 2006, only 1.6% of new car buyers chose this paint.

In the "bright" colors there is a renaissance of green - 1.7 percent (+0.5 points) - the highest value since 2005. More popular are only blue, which, as in the previous year, was chosen by just over one in ten (10.6 percent), and red by 6.3 percent, which lost 0.4 percentage points.

Only one in every 100 new car buyers chooses orange (1.1 percent). Yellow (1.0 percent), which is clearly losing popularity in the long run, is being chosen even less frequently. In 2009, with its 2.2 percent, twice as many customers chose yellow.

At the bottom of the popularity scale is brown with 0.7 percent. From its highest level in 2012 with a share of 6.7 percent, the color is becoming less popular with each passing year.

"When deciding on a color, many buyers of new cars are probably already thinking about reselling in a few years and looking in advance for the best value then for a color that is currently very popular," said the VDA.
