CSTO troops withdraw from Kazakhstan in two days

The President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev said that the withdrawal of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent from the country will begin in two days, TASS reports.

"In general, the acute phase of the anti-terrorist operation has passed. The situation in all regions is stable. In this regard, I declare that the main mission of the CSTO peacekeeping forces has been successfully accomplished. In two days, the withdrawal of the united CSTO peacekeeping contingent will begin in stages. The withdrawal process will take no more than 10 days, "Tokayev told the Majilisa (lower house of parliament) on Tuesday.

According to Tokayev, the cohesion of the society in the country has been methodically undermined, and the National Security Committee has not seen the threat.

"The cohesion of our society was methodically broken, including through protests, according to professionally developed scenarios. Specific executors of radical measures were secretly prepared. "The National Security Committee, as an authorized body, could not and did not want to give a clear assessment of this subversive work, did not see a critical threat to national security," Tokayev said.

Tokayev said the fighters intended to seize power in the country, and their plan to attack was complex.

"The plan to attack Kazakhstan included a number of different aspects - military, political, ideological, disinformation and others. "Professionals are working to prepare for the seizure of power," he said.

According to Tokayev, attempts at a coup in Kazakhstan have failed.

"Attempts at a coup d'etat and the assassination attempt on the country's integrity have failed. Together, as one people, we defended Almaty and other regional centers. They will be restored as soon as possible, "the head of state said.

Tokayev noted that not all law enforcement agencies have shown loyalty to their obligations. "In a number of cities, the heads of departments of the National Security Committee, despite a sufficient military arsenal, left the office building without going into battle, leaving weapons and secret documents there," the president said.
