In France, former head of Bank Turan Alem (BTA Bank) Mukhtar Ablyazov, who has called himself the leader of the opposition in Kazakhstan, said he had called on US and European leaders to impose sanctions on the Asian country. He spoke about this in an interview published on Saturday for the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, quoted by TACC.
"I wrote letters to the President of the United States and all European leaders to demand sanctions against the regime (Kazakh authorities - TASS)," said Ablyazov, who was sentenced in absentia to long terms in Kazakhstan and Russia for several crimes, including fraud. theft and counterfeiting.
Ablyazov called the current protests in Kazakhstan spontaneous. According to him, this is a people's revolution with which external forces have nothing to do. "Our country is not Ukraine, where other countries, such as Poland, have their own interests. We often talk about Turkey and its role, but there is no Western power behind these protests," he said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Ablyazov in Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. He has been charged with a number of crimes, including fraud, forgery and abuse of power. A lawsuit was filed against him in Kazakhstan in 2009, after which the banker fled the country and was declared internationally wanted by Interpol.
