Our goal for 2022 is to reach an agreement with Serbia

The Kosovo government's goal for 2022 is to reach an agreement with Serbia and normalize relations with it. This was assured by the Prime Minister of the youngest country in the Balkans, Albin Kurti, adding that the implementation of this goal depends much more on Belgrade than on Pristina, quoted Albanian-language Skopje-based Alsat-M as saying.

"An agreement that does not imply mutual recognition is, of course, not acceptable to us and would not benefit anyone, while reaching a final agreement would be beneficial to both parties, as it would speed up the process of European integration." commented Kurti.

He noted that Serbia wants to continue the European path, but this is not possible without the recognition of Kosovo, while, on the other hand, Pristina wants European and Euro-Atlantic integration, which requires full normalization of relations with Belgrade.

The Kosovo prime minister added that Serbia has dilemmas because it has signed a free trade agreement with Russia, bought weapons from Russia and is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, and Kosovo is "on a purely European path".
