The FSB detained a hacker group at the request of the United States

Russian authorities have stopped the activities of the hacker group REvil, whose members have been raising money, including in the United States, through ransomware programs, Vzglyad reported, citing the press service of the Federal Security Service of Russia.

"The full composition of the REvil criminal community and the involvement of its members in the illicit trafficking of means of payment has been established," the statement said.

426 million rubles, 600 thousand dollars, 500 thousand euros and 20 luxury cars purchased with stolen money were seized by 14 members of the hacker group at 25 addresses.

It later became known about REvil's encroachments on the information resources of foreign companies, the competent American authorities announced. Information about community leaders was also provided.

"At the heart of the investigation is a call from the US authorities to report on the leader of the criminal community and his involvement in encroaching on the information resources of foreign high-tech companies by introducing malware, encrypting information and extorting money to decipher it." , said in a statement the FSB.
