The United States is cutting its diplomatic staff in Kazakhstan, and Germany will no longer sell weapons to the Asian country

US embassy officials must leave Kazakhstan in addition to those needed for emergencies, the US State Department said in a statement. Even before Washington's announcement, German authorities announced a cessation of German arms exports and all defense-related goods to Kazakhstan. According to the DPA, members of the ruling coalition in Germany have made this decision in connection with the escalation of the situation in this Central Asian country, writes the German media Deutschlandfunk.

Despite the relatively small volume of German arms exports to Kazakhstan, it was decided to end this cooperation as well. For the whole of last year, according to official data, Germany sold arms to Kazakhstan for 2.2 million euros.

Meanwhile, unrest continues in Kazakhstan itself. Shooting and explosions were reported. The country's future is unpredictable. The protests began because of rising fuel prices. The authoritarian head of state Tokayev responded to this outrage by declaring a state of emergency and ordering the shooting of the rebels, German media reported.

Tokayev also asked Russia for help. The German newspaper Tagesspiegel covered the event with the headline "The winner is called Putin" and described the situation as follows: "With his cry for help to Moscow, the Kazakh president has made his country completely dependent on Moscow. "At the same time, the newspaper notes that" until recently, Kazakhstan's rulers served American interests, as flirting with Washington allowed them to counterbalance the often overly intrusive friendly gestures of Moscow and Beijing.
