The wave created by Omicron will subside by February 20

The wave of infections with the coronavirus strain Omicron will die out by February 20 and will probably be the last mutation of the new coronavirus, Demosthenes Sarianis, a professor at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, told Greece's Newsbeast website.

The famous scientist in Greece referred to a mathematical model for the development of another wave of the pandemic. In the last five days, new records of coronavirus infection have been registered in Greece every day - 40.5 thousand cases on Friday, and the Omicron strain became the predominant strain in the country.

According to Sarianis, the upward trend will continue until January 20-22, with the average weekly level reaching 66,000 infections. In practice, this means that there may be days in which there will be 80,000 and even 100,000 cases of coronavirus per day, said Sarianis, who believes calculating the average weekly level is a more accurate method than daily reporting.

"Thus, on February 20, a month after the peak of the next wave, its decline will be over. Then the average weekly number of infected will be 3500 - 4000 cases. "Then Omicron will come to an end, and a very large part of our society will have immunity," Sarianis said.

Perhaps, in his words, this will be the last "doing" of the coronavirus.

"But even if Omicron is the last coronavirus jump we see, which is very likely, the logic of complacency should not prevail in any case, that we will all get over it a little and we will see the end of it," he added.
