Ukraine has the right to choose its own path

US First Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman at a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council on Wednesday announced the right of each country to choose its own path. She published the relevant message on Twitter, TASS reports.

"At today's meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, I reaffirmed the basic principles of the international system and European security: each country has the sovereign right to choose its own path," Sherman said. She added that she would tell reporters about "[the current] work of [the United States] with allies and partners to urge Russia to de-escalate tensions and make diplomatic commitments."

The Russian-American consultations on security guarantees ended on January 10 in Geneva. A meeting of the Russia-NATO Council is being held in Brussels on Wednesday, and issues of security guarantees for the Russian Federation will be discussed at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna on 13 January.
