A London hospital could lose a thousand staff who refuse to be vaccinated

A London hospital could lose a thousand employees if it refuses to be vaccinated against Covid-19 before the rules on compulsory vaccination for National Health Service (NHS) workers in Britain are introduced in April, its head warned, quoted by the British newspaper The Times.

Clive Kay, chief executive of King's College (KCH), said he was "concerned" that 10% of the 14,000 hospital staff had not received their first dose. Those who are not vaccinated and cannot be reassigned to positions that are not in contact with patients are at risk of losing their jobs, he said.

Health Minister Saji Javid has criticized "anti-vaccination fanatics" who are causing "senseless confusion". He wrote in The Mail on Sunday: "We must reject the dangerous nonsense pushed by some because vaccination has become too dominant."

Recent data show that more than 91% of NHS staff have received two doses of coronavirus vaccine, but more than 90,000 have not yet been vaccinated. Kay himself said his job was to "encourage staff to get vaccinated", but he said "individual choices should be respected".
