 The peacekeeping contingent will remain in Kazakhstan for a limited period, after fulfilling its functions, it will be withdrawn from the republic. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at an extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council, quoted by TACC.

At the same time, Putin stressed that the CSTO peacekeeping operation in Kazakhstan is extremely timely and legitimate. "We have managed to fully deploy the contingent in a relatively short time. We consider our joint actions to be extremely timely and, of course, absolutely legal," the Russian leader said.

 He stressed that the CSTO units are located in Kazakhstan at the official request of the leadership of the republic and in full compliance with Article 4 of the Basic Collective Security Treaty of 1992, which provides that in case of aggression against any of the participants countries, all other countries will provide the necessary support and assistance, including military. "And what we are seeing is the aggression of international terrorism," Putin said.

 The president said acts of aggression in Kazakhstan "must be responded to immediately". Therefore, according to him, the proposal of the President of Kazakhstan was immediately supported by all the leaders of the CSTO member states and the Prime Minister of Armenia, chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council. "It is extremely important that our organization, with the participation of its secretariat, managed to quickly and easily make all necessary decisions in a short time, we can say that in a few hours to prevent undermining the foundations of state power in Kazakhstan "the complete degradation of the internal situation, as well as to put a barrier in front of terrorists, looters and other criminals," Putin said.
