A Swedish company has created a Covid microchip that is implanted under the skin

A Swedish start-up company has created a scanning microchip that implants in people's hands and can show your vaccination status against COVID-19. This digital implant is designed to be placed in the hands of people, so that when scanning the information from the vaccination passport comes out, writes Daily Express.

Created by technology startup Dsruptive Subdermals, the controversial invention was made from a pre-programmed two-millimeter by 16-millimeter scan implant.

The invention received much attention when it was first announced, with some describing it as "invasive."

In an interview with the Express, Hannes Söblad, managing director of Dsruptive Subdermals, responded to the critics.

He said: "This technology exists and is used whether we like it or not. I am happy that this is included in the public conversation. New technologies need to be widely discussed and understood. Smart implants are a powerful health technology. That's what we're building at DSruptive, and our goal is to transform healthcare globally. "

Although new to humans, this type of technology is very common for pets, many of which have a built-in microchip that reveals the animal's medical history when scanned.

Its price is 100 euros for a microchip and the device works by scanning the place of the hand with a mobile phone.

When scanned, a PDF file will appear showing all the details of the person's EU Covid certificate, indicating the person's vaccination status and can also show if the person has recently tested positive for Covid.

For many who would be skeptical of the device, Söblad assured that implants are not tracking devices and are only used when scanned.

Mr Söblad explained: "If you understand how these implants work, they don't have a battery. They cannot transmit a signal on their own. So they are basically passive. They sit there and sleep. They can never tell you your location, they only activate when you touch them with your smartphone, so that means they can't be used to track someone's location. "
