About 60% of Germans support Nord Stream 2

 


 A majority of Germans support the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, according to a study published on Thursday night by the Infratest dimap institute commissioned by ARD.

According to the survey, 60% of respondents supported the project. Only 28% believe that Germany should not implement it. At the same time, in the eastern part of the country 70% support the gas pipeline, while in the West German lands it is 57%. Against the project are 30% in the west and only 18% in East Germany.

 Most opponents of the pipeline are supporters of the Union-90 / Greens - 55% do not support the project, 34% are in favor. Most Germans approving the project are supporters of Alternative for Germany: 86% vs. 8%.

Construction of Nord Stream 2 was fully completed on September 10, 2021. It was originally planned to be completed by the end of 2019, but construction was delayed due to US sanctions. The pipeline consists of two lines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters. per year, which pass from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany.
