Britain is waiting for an agreement on the migration crisis after the elections in France

The British government is working on plans for an agreement to resolve the migration crisis in the English Channel this year. London has already concluded that there is no hope of a deal with France ahead of the presidential election in April, The Times reported on Monday, citing senior British Foreign Office officials.

The newspaper's interlocutors say they are developing proposals that can be presented "as soon as the election is over" in the hope that the winner of the French election will come up with his "realistic plans" to solve the problem.

A spokesman for the Interior Ministry, who was traveling to Paris for talks, said French officials had rejected all proposals from the British side, the newspaper said.

London and Paris have been battling illegal border crossings for several years, but the number of migrants trying to cross the English Channel and the Pas-de-Calais is growing. In 2021, more than 25,000 people entered the United Kingdom illegally on this route. Several thousand migrants were detained by French authorities this year before they could leave French waters. Earlier, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen said that French rescue and border services between January and the end of November 2021 had rescued 7.8 thousand illegal immigrants trying to cross the English Channel to the United Kingdom.
