Zelensky discussed with Biden joint actions to preserve peace in Europe

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky discussed joint actions to ensure peace in Europe, prevent further escalation of tensions, and domestic policy issues in Kiev during a telephone conversation with US leader Joe Biden on Sunday. He published the relevant message on his Twitter page, TASS reports.

"We discussed the joint actions of Ukraine, the United States and partners to preserve peace in Europe and prevent further escalation, reforms and de-oligarchization," Zelensky wrote.

He stressed that he praised the "unwavering support" for his country from the US president and called their relationship special. "The first international conversation of the year with Biden proves the special nature of our relationship," the Ukrainian leader said.

For its part, the White House press service said that the two heads of state had discussed upcoming contacts with Russia on security guarantees. It is noted that Biden and Zelensky "expressed support for the diplomatic efforts that will begin next week with a bilateral [US-Russian] dialogue on strategic stability [in Geneva on 10 January], [continued] in NATO through the NATO-Russia Council, as well as and in the OSCE. "

The President of the United States has assured that the issues affecting Ukraine will not be resolved without its participation. He thanked Zelensky for the United States' support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, "made it clear that the United States, its allies and partners will respond decisively in the event of a further Russian invasion of Ukraine," and noted Washington's support for confidence-building measures to de-escalate tensions in Donbas.
